In 2002, the Ministry of Higher & Technical Education of the Govt. of Maharashtra, recognising the requirement for an computer literate workforce and population, established the Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Ltd. (MKCL). MKCL was incorporated as a public limited company with the Dept. of Technical Education, Govt. of Maharashtra, along with the Universities in Maharashtra holding a 51% stake, and private shareholders holding the rest.
MKCL’s low cost hi-tech IT-Literacy programme MS-CIT, (Maharashtra State Certificate in Information Technology) has enabled the people of Maharashtra with the fundamentals of information technology and computing, enabling them to the power of information technology in their day-to-day life. More than a crore [100,00,000] learners including local self-government and state government employees as well as students housewives and senior citizens, have successfully completed the course.
Literacy is necessary, but proficiency in the use of computers for professional work is more critical. MKCL’s KLiC Courses impart career oriented proficiency in specific areas, including finance & accounts, digital arts, graphics & animation, retail & customer services etc.
All the programmes are delivered through a network of more than 5000 Authorised Learning Centres (ALCs) in Maharashtra, and sister companies in Rajasthan & Orissa. These Centres — established by small and medium entrepreneurs & educational enterprises — spread across India including metropolitan, urban, semi-urban, rural, tribal and hilly regions, are affiliated to MKCL, or its sister companies, subject to authorisation audit. This network of MKCL ALCs has emerged as the single largest network of Information technology (IT) Learning Centres in India.
MKCL has outsourced the ALC Establishment & Validation, the ALC Management, the Learner Admission, and the Learner Management Processes, to various companies with a mandate across a specified geographical area. These companies are designated as the Local Lead Centres (LLCs) at the district level and Regional Lead Centres (RLCs) which comprise 4-6 districts. Our promoters have been part of the MKCL network from 2004 at various levels.
This network is also utilised for e-governance and social welfare initiatives of the principal Client.
